Author Bio

barbara sternig, author of On Chestnut Street… a 1940s Childhood in Words and Pictures onchestnutstreet.comBarbara Sternig has travelled a long way since Chestnut Street.

After beginning her career at Chicago’s AM radio giant WCFL, she moved to Los Angeles to become a reporter for all-news radio station KFWB. But Hollywood beckoned and she soon embarked on a long and successful career in entertainment reporting. She wrote, legged and produced Rona Barrett’s syndicated gossip report, and then notably, joined iconic tabloid The National Enquirer, where for twenty years she held the post of Senior Reporter in Hollywood.

Her book Secrets of a Tabloid Reporter details some of her more memorable adventures during that action-packed period. (Find on Amazon.)

Always remaining close to her large family in the Midwest, she made countless forays back to her beloved Chicago to visit them at the family’s Glencoe home.

Sternig is an inveterate world traveler, having made five world cruises on the fabled QE2, plus trips by sea and land to most of the fascinating venues in those “1000 places to see before you die” books. She lived in Vienna for a summer, spent five weeks in Burma recently, loves a good road trip, and also very much enjoys staying home once in a while in Southern California.

With a new tome in progress at this printing, the author otherwise occupies her time with free-lance assignments, a weekly radio segment, and many other interests.

She is divorced and lives in Los Angeles.
